Sending hugs

Hi Folks!

Are you ready for another  edition of the collectively creative series Kelly over at Cobwebs, Cupcakes and Crayons is hosting? Today’s edition is the Lovey-Dovey  for Valentine’s Day 🙂

Again, I wanted to do something that the kids could do with me. They love doing crafts and projects with mom, but they don’t get to do it as often as they wish 😉

I love the comic strip series For Better or For Worse, written by  fellow canadian Lynn Johnston. I have all her books and read them all many a couple of time, they are that good! You might have seen those in the papers too. In one of the strips Michael is making paper hugs with Lizzie to send to their grandma. I loved that idea at the time (but camille was a baby back then) and saw it again a couple of weeks ago on the ever popular Pinterest. I thought that would be a great valentine  to send to family members for Valentine’s day!

we (literally) got down to work….

sending hugs!

My mom gave me a big roll of craft paper, so that it’s what we used.

sending hugs!

The kiddos traced around each other and they had quite some fun doing this.

sending hugs!

Then, we wrote “we love you that big” on each of the paper hugs and they got to decorate them as they wish.

sending hugs!

We folded them all nicely and put them into envelops, all ready to go to their respective recipient! I bet grandparents, aunts, uncle  and cousins will be very surprised to receive them !!

Here’s a group picture of all our hugs!

I have been spoiled  this last week! So spoiled that I may be starting to rotten 😉

My friend Kim sent me a HUGE package… she IS crazy!

a lucky girl!

It was better than Xmas morning though. The kids were way too much excited. That doubled up when they saw some of the wrapped parcels had their names on them… They were squealing and unwrapping like crazies, then running to their rooms to stash their treasures safely!

a lucky girl!

Julien got a japanese book on how to make paper airplanes and he’s been using it a lot! I mean, every few feet I stumble onto one.

Man, there were such great stuff! Remember my Bento post?

a lucky girl!

Now with all these neat Bento products, I’ll rock the lunches! 🙂 Just can’t wait for school to start again… for the lunches and for the vacations mommy is gonna get  lol! (and I’m not even showing you the complete set!)

She also sent some things for my handbags and sewing. Some yummy yarns (see those gorgeous cotton? teal and yellow! soo cheery!)

a lucky girl!

and she made me hard lotion bars! If she hadn’t told me I wouldn’t have guessed she made those. I was sure she bought them somewhere nice… this is going asap in my purse, I’ll be ready when winter comes!

*sigh* I  have been feeling it was too much  and I wasn’t deserving it, but Hubby told me ” you are really good to your friends so let her spoil you a bit”…

Thank you more than billion Kim! Love you! ( and just can’t wait to see you!!!!)

Merci Mille fois Kim! Gros bisous et on se voit bientôt!!!!!

Julien Bday Party!

Posted on

It’s over! Already 😉 We had fun, we had sunshine, we had good food and my boy was happy… So be prepared for lots of pictures and a big post!

Julien bday party!

Julien was so sweet the week before. I was doing some crafts to add to my décor and he helped me a bit. All he was saying is: mommy you are working too hard, you are making too much stuff… And I heard one of Camille’s friend that was over for the day whispering to my daughter : you mom IS doing lots of crafts. I keep forgetting that is not the same in all houses lol!

Julien bday party!

I was crazy enough to put all my décor on work one day while the kids were at school and at the babysitter. Taking pictures for about 45 minutes, and putting all of it away when done clicking the camera. 🙂

Julien Bday party!

I worked hard and I wasn’t to let the opportunity to take pictures get away! not mentioning you never know what will happen the day of the party…. And what if I’m too busy for taking pictures? and what if an accident happened?? which did… Yep.

Julien bday party!

One of my friend brought her cute little sausage dog and my cat felt threatened by it. My hubby just had time to held the cat down but got bitten quite a lot ;( now he’s on a roll of antibiotics (my hubby, not the cat!)

All in all, I did the décor under 20$… still amazed by the cost! I had almost everything on hand so I might say I was a lucky girl.

Julien Bday party!

We had “ice cream cone” cake for dessert along with a sundae bar.

The sundae bar was a hit with the temperature being so hot!

Most of the ideas are from Pinterest of course. you can see my inspirational board here (there’s good tuts if you want to make some!)

Julien Bday party!

Julien wanted a Star wars party, but since I got started on the popsicle-ice cream-mustache smash theme he was gracious enough to let me be the boss! but watch out next year, I don’t think I’ll be that lucky ha!

I made the mustaches and booth props  from styro sheet from the dollar store. The banner, pinwheels, and little bunting are from cardboard from the $ store. Apothecary jars are my buttons jar in their ordinary life and the vintage carry on is uses as storage for my finished scarves. White tablecloth habitually used when I have a craft fair and the orange fabrics are from my stash and are reclaimed of course! Mason jars from the time I was doing pickling like crazy and background is my old plywood plank I distressed. Popcorn garland is a Xmas classic and ice cream cones made from craft paper, tissue paper and styro balls I had lying around. Branches are gift from the backyard (as are the pine cones!).  I was happy to be crafting like a storm but glad it’s now over 🙂

Still can’t believe Julien will be 8 at the end of the month…

The kids got to play in water and had lots of fun.

They ate watermelon and popsicles…

Crafting hard!

Soon, my one and only son will be turning 8!! already!  And I’m planning a big party for his birthday 🙂 Since it’s the only member of the family that has a birthday in summer (we are all just before Xmas) it’s fun to be doing something outside and have the place…!

I’ve started a pinterest board  to collect ideas of what I have in mind 🙂 Pinterest is sooo addictive…. but very useful!

So here’s a teaser of what I’ve done today….

popsicle Collage

I made the invitations look like  creamsicles and I love them. Just made a template out of a cereal box and cut in cardboard from the $ store.

Popsicle invitations

I’ve a pretty good idea of what I want in term of décor lol. Thanks to Pinterest!

It will involve lots O’ candies….

Freezer paper appliqué tut

Freezer paper appliqué tut

I’ve been wanting to try this technique for more than 6 months now… It has been delayed that much because it’s impossible to find  freezer paper here in Québec! No grocery stores, no walmart nor Zeller’s and the like are selling it! Can you imagine that?! Finally I gave in and bought the stuff at Club Tissus, 11 bucks for 50 paper size sheets… this is not cheap, but it’s for a good reason 😉

I can say I’m thrilled with this technique and I almost regretted not to buy this stuff earlier (this was the cheap in me lol).

Wanna now what I did? let’s go for a walk thru …

First you will need

  • some freezer paper (in the wrapping aisle of your grocery store) It’s a paper that is wax on only one side.
  • Fabric paint (I  used dollar store acrylic paint mix fabric medium)
  • sponge brush
  • iron
  • X-Acto or utility knife
  • Piece of cardboard
  • hair blower if you are anxious to see your results like now!
First, decide on what you want for appliqué and draw it on the paper side of your freezer paper (keep in mind that you’ll get a reverse image, so draw you letters backward is you want to write something) With X-Acto cut along your lines and tear your drawing to remove the center, keeping any small parts inside.

Freezer paper appliqué tut

As you can see I did an anchor and I keep the small circle at the top.

Next, iron your design (wax side face down on your fabric). It will stuck to your fabric like a sticker! Put any small parts of your design on  and iron them too (see my small circle?).

Freezer paper appliqué tut

You will need a piece of card board to put between your 2 layers of fabrics, so when you will paint you won’t have a mess on the back.

Mix your acrylic paint with your medium according to instruction or use fabric paint. With a sponge brush, dab your design taking care not to put paint anywhere else on your fabric.

Freezer paper appliqué tut

Continue until all your design is covered with paint.

If you are like me, and just want to see the finish product now, blow dry it for about 5 min, until paint is set.

Freezer paper appliqué tut

remove your freezer paper carefully and iron it to set the paint.

Did someone said FUN???!!! Man, I have TONS of plain t-shirts…. LOL!

It looks soooo professional don’t you think?? This skirt is for Camille and I made it using all thrift store fabrics…

On a other note, I’ve finally decided that I won’t use this bag as a school bag after all…

Eco-friendly shoulder bag

I’ll be afraid to dirty it all the time and I will not want to put it on the ground, not very useful for a school bag 😉 So I’m offering it on my shop (here). I bought a little vintage something instead….! Pictures to come when I’ll receive it 😉

what to do with empty soft drink bottles?? I found an interesting idea on Pinterest and made it asap with the kids since they were out of school for the day and I had everything on hand already!

What did we made?? this!

Bird feeder tut

Isn’t it cool?! a bird feeder on the cheap 😉 I found the idea on this site, so it’s not from my own brains but hey, it’s cool and the kids loved doing it! I only used one wooden spoon per bottle because I would have needed to buy new ones… I recycled one broken spoon with this project. The small loop screws were from curtain rings.

This is what we used.

Bird feeder tut

Basically, just make two holes in front of each other, tread the spoon in those holes (just make sure they are a bit bigger than the spoon so the birds can catch grains) fill it up, and screw the loop screws on top of the lid.

Fill it with bird’s grains and screw the lid back.

Hang on with some ribbon or twine and enjoy the show!

We hanged them on the cherry trees just in front of our living room, so we can watch the cute birds all year long.

The birdies didn’t find the feeders yet but Rachel was calling them in the window lol!

Rainy day and lousy craft

Posted on

It has been rainy today and the kids were out of school for easter’s break.

So, you know, I thought why not make a craft with the 2 oldests?! I was seeing those crayon ones all over pinterest and thought I’ll give it a try. We got busy….

And ended up with these:

Kind weird and scary looking wannabe overripe  bananas… The kids thought they were fun though. We’ll see how long they will be lying around and get used. I melt the crayons at 230C in the oven for 15 minutes  and almost got the mold molten too. Not. to. do. again.
