A lady asked me on my facebook fan page if I could sew 2 hippopotamus for 2 young girlies in her life. I looked everywhere trying to find a sewing pattern and none was there to be found 😦

So I put my big girl panties and went to work drafting my own…

My own pattern :)

And so glad I did!! All in all it took me less than 45 min and I had a cute pattern that I couldn’t wait to see alive with fabrics 🙂

Sooooo happy with the end products!!! I may or may not have made a happy dance…

they are made from men’s wool pants, cotton blanket and remnant and t-shirts.

A bit smaller than the stuffed elephant, they  measures: 7″x10 1/2″.

Still need to find them a name, any ideas?? I was thinking of Germaine  for the girlies and Hyppolite for the bad boy…

What’s up with the drawings?

Posted on

I’m dead tired… You know when your brain seems to have fun by itself and just let your eyes have that vacant stare. Yep. That’s me. But I’m still functional enough to show you what we have been up to in our drawing class. We’ve been very productive!

Camille is making good progress. When you look at her first drawing and the one she’s working on now, you can definitely  see that she understood something 🙂

The first:

Camille drawings

The third (we can’t show you her second since it will be gifted later ;))

Camille drawings

The wavy lines at the bottom is just so we know we need to cut the sheet there if we remove it from the binder, it’s not part of the drawing 🙂

I’ve made progress too… And I’m even surprise myself that I’m on my  4th portrait! Man, I didn’t know I didn’t need to spend like 18 hours on one ha! With a bit of guidance it’s so much faster now. The portraits are now taking me about 3 classes  to complete. Amazing!

The one you saw half completed:

my youngest, 3 months

It’s Rachel at 3 months old. I’m fairly happy with this one and it’s now done after waiting for a couple of years.

Next one, I’m not that satisfied with.

my oldest at 6 months

Camille 6 months old.

I really don’t like the left eye, but I went almost through the sheet of paper with the eraser so I had to let it be. It kind of show 😉

Last, after a hard start, I say LOVE!

My son at 6 months

Julien 6 months old.

I still see my flaws but I like the finish look!

Still need to finish the one I just started last class and I hope I will be done before the summer break!

Besides that, the kids are preparing to go to Scouts summer camp in about a week and they are very excited 🙂

Camille and I registered for a drawing class a month ago. And we both love it 🙂 It’s some time together  and it has been nice to learn a bit of drawing technique! Camille enjoys to have time set aside only for drawing (and going to bed later than usual lol). She’s like her mother, she loves to be involve in all sort of crafts and can’t wait to have a desk and crafting supplies in her bedroom…

We learned how to enlarge a picture and Camille is still working on that. She finished her outlines yesterday and began to color with coloring pencils. (I think she prefers the coloring part 😉 Here’s her progress in 4 weeks (1 hour and a half class each time):

She choose an Hello Kitty with bee-bears… I like the chubby one on the right upper corner 😉 For a 9 yo, she’s good…! and I’m really objective…lol

I started enlarging a rose image some of the lady there was kind enough to give me. But switched to portrait… I really love doing portraits! It’s nice challenge ah!

I started this one couple of years ago and never got around it to finish it (it was way down on the todo list) So I whipped it up and redone a bit on it. The teacher is saying I’ll be done with it next week but let say I’m skeptical… 😉 Can’t wait to finish it though so I can start a new one with the “right” technique. Hopefully my measurements will be on spot in a better way!

I wanted to share the first portrait I made (with “no” technique since this class is my first  ever drawing class) It’s really dear to my heart even with its imperfections.

It’s a portrait of my grand-father (mom’s side). He died a long time ago, on my 14th birthday, and it’s still painful to think about it, but I had a peaceful time while making it. It took me countless hours but I just didn’t mind at all. I think I was about 18 when I did it.

Can’t wait to show you the finished Hello Kitty!!! 🙂

Camille a choisi Hello Kitty.
