she’s 5

I forgot and never posted pictures of my baby being a big 5 yo girl!

she's 5!

I think it’s partly because we all had influenza… partly because her Bday is dec 23rd and we are starting to be busy with Xmas stuff.

she's 5!

Pictures are ok I think, neither mommy or Rachel was in the mood and it shows a bit 😉

she's 5!

I had to take them in the living room and light is difficult there, so I ended up having less than 15 pictures for about 175 one taken.

she's 5!

She just couldn’t wait to be 5 and go to school every day (that would be next september!) and take the school bus, and having her own lunch box… She’s my little ray of sunshine! she gives the best cuddles and wants to take care of everyone…

she's 5!

Girl’s tea party Bday!

We celebrated the 2 girls birthday this last weekend with their friends. I really wanted to throw a tea party, so I suggested it to Camille and the deal was closed in seconds. I knew if Camille was sold on it, so would Rachel since she wants to do everything her older sister does 😉 Yes. I’m sneaky like that sometimes… That and the fact that I really didn’t wanted to do a princess party.

Camille made the invites (forgot to take pictures of this) with a tea cup drawing on the front.

Tea party Bday!

I found this at the thrift store for a whopping 5$ 🙂 And the kids were gonna take it home as a gift too since I really didn’t need 10 tea cups and saucers lol!

Made some decorations… (my kitchen IS yellow, so it’s really difficult to take nice pictures…)

Tea party Bday!

With old necklaces,

Tea party Bday!

paper flowers, balloons,

Tea party Bday!

tissue paper pom-poms (they are now residing in Rachel’s room!) and doilies as placemats…

Tea party Bday!

We had lots of food too for afternoon tea and snacks! We had the cookies we made last week, cucumber sandwiches, fruits and veggies, cheese and cupcakes 😉 I still can’t believe they ate it ALL! I can tell you they had a light dinner lol!

Tea party Bday!

they painted Xmas decorations, they got excited all over the house (I thought that having 8 girls wouldn’t be that bad… never underestimate the power of a party… and the size of your house lol!) ate, and ate and ate some more… Most of the kids didn’t like the chocolate-thai herbal tea I made though, so they had milk in their cup 😉
I’m just happy that my kids had a blast… and that is now over!

She strikes again!

Yep! my friend Kim made  a fairy of herself, again! That wonderful lady sent me a surprise in the mail, lucky me!

a surprise in the mail!

In was heavy with all the thoughtfulness and kindness that went with it….

a surprise in the mail!

Inside I found a chocolate bar (hate half of it already and this stuff IS good!), cotton scraps (with owls!), 9 girl’s dresses patterns (my, Camille must have spent like 20 minutes looking at them and trying to decide which she liked the most lol! she was soooo happy!) and HEXAGONS! Yay, I just couldn’t wait to start on them 😉 Man, this stuff is so fun, even if your brains are too tired to do anything! you’ll see them later 😉 and some cute hand warmers lol!

I mean, when I wrote to her to say thanks and to tell how I loved everything, I thanked  her for the hand warmers and that I popped them in the microwave and they were wonderful and how could she known I wanted to make some… and she wrote back that she thought for a couple of minutes what I was talking about… ends up that she made me pattern weights! bwahahaha! but they are too light for that and  just the perfect size for hand warmers 😉 I’m sure the kids will love that in a couple of days! (we are finally getting some snow over here!)

Thank you lots Kim and I love you too!

Cleaning…

I had to stop school… but more on that later.

sewing room disaster...

Meanwhile, this is what my sewing looked like for the past weeks… I know. yes, I’m ashamed lol!

so today it’s cleaning for the most part and going to the library to look up some book about puberty… She just turned 10 last week, and I can see the hormones coming in… Like coming home crying because she missed me during the day. Like saying her breasts are sore. I just heard more grey hair sprouting…  I am sooo not ready to that, she’s still my little girl!

No baby anymore

Yep, that’s right! My last baby has entered the milestone and started PreK this afternoon…

My last baby at school...

She was way too excited by this event!

My last baby at school...

She spent hours making drawings for her new teacher all week…

My last baby at school...

She kept asking how many sleeps before she goes to the same school as her big sister (and brother)…

My last baby at school...

We ended up being at the school doors 20 minutes in advance 😉 She thought it was taking too much time and we needed to go like NOW lol!

My last baby at school...

That gave mommy time to take pictures 🙂 and maybe to let a tear go down…

Pattern try: Mary’s Fancy sash dress

Camille was really in need of new dresses (Have I ever said that I have 2 really girly girls?) And she’s hitting that age where it’s becoming very difficult to find older girl dresses that is lengthy to our taste (yep, hers too)… And everywhere I was looking there were only cotton dress patterns, the one made for hot summer days, not cool winter ones.

Girl's world!

As I was drooling  going through that book (again!) and cooing over those lovely and colorful dresses the bulb went on!  I could make one for winter using heavier weight fabric and she could wear it putting a long sleeve t-shirt underneath… I mean duh, that was so obvious 🙂

So,  I took some 2$ corduroy from the thrift store I new she would love and a contrasting cotton skirt and went to work…

Pattern try: mary's fancy sash dress

Easy to make! I had a bit of trouble with the bias binding at the neck and armholes but it went fairly quickly! I was going to make some of them for summer and I think i’ll make bodice linings for these ones.

She LOVED it! in fact she was wearing it the next morning when I woke up and I had to make a point for her to get it off lol…

Pattern try: mary's fancy sash dress

I really like the contrasting orange sash, it pops up a lot! I just need to find a long sleeve t-shirt now 😉

And since I had about  a yard left, I made a matching skirt for her little sister

Rachel was estatic!

Rachel's new skirt!

I thought there were too much fabric as the skirt is bunching at the waist but she loved the fullness…

Rachel's new skirt!

(she wanted to take pictures with her dolly!)
Mommy’s happy, both girls are too!

Rachel's new skirt!

Still can’t belive she’s starting preK tomorrow afternoon…

T-shirt top play dress tut!

Michelle at MichellePatterns is doing another challenge this week 🙂 It’s called the pinterest challenge (it’s not too late to participate and do the giveaway!) and you have to make something inspired from something you pinned on pinterest… I saw lots of  dresses made from t-shirt tops so I decided to give it a go! (here’s another one for inspiration)

T-shirt top dress

Remember the white cami I dyed? I finally used it 😉 Along with some fabric my friend Katrina gave me (Hi Redrane!)

T-shirt top dress

It was going to be for Camille, since I find it hard to find some cute dresses the length we like.

I cut the cami about 4 inches under the arm.

Then I cut 2 inches strips from the remnant.

T-shirt top dress

Sew 2 strips together to make a long one and ruffled it with my sewing machine.

I then pinned  it around the collar and cut the over and sewed the 2 end together to make a loop and sewed it on.

T-shirt top dress

The purpose of this ruffle is to make more girly and to hide some of the dye stains 🙂

Next I measured the length I wanted and cut the fabric  accordingly (width is selvage from selvage). Sewed the selvage together.

Gathered it and sewed it on the cami.

Made a ruffle with the fabric remnant and added it to the skirt. Put a cute belt and you’re done!

When I showed it to her when she came back from school she squealed with delight and was wearing it the next morning (so the pictures are taken before she left for school and she ‘s standing up on her dresser lol!)
