Easiest black forest cake ever!

easiest black forest cake recipe

and it’s real good! When there is a gathering and we need to bring food, I almost always bring this one. Feeds a crowd, people are impressed, and taste awesome!

The important thing with this cake is to make it the day before you are planning to eat it.

To start, you only need 3 things. Yep. I told you it is easy….

easiest black forest cake recipe

You’ll need cherry pie filling in a can, devil’s food cake mix and a 500 ml container of 35% cream for whipping.

easiest black forest cake recipe

Just make and bake the cake following instructions on the box (bake it in 2 identical cake pans, round, square, doesn’t matter)

easiest black forest cake recipe

Whip all your container of cream.

When the cakes are cooled down, cut them in half on the thickness.

easiest black forest cake recipe

I like to use thread to cut it. Easier than using a knife.

Put half of one of your cake on your cake plate.

easiest black forest cake recipe

Pour 1/3 of the cherry pie filling on top. Spread.

Pour a bit of whipped cream and spread (don’t be too generous because you won’t have enough to cover the entire cake at the end!)

Put the other half of the cake. Repeat the steps. Do the same with the other cake.

Now you’ll have 4 layers of cake, 3 layers of pie filling and whipped cream.

Cover the entire cake with the remaining whipped cream.

DONE! Refrigerate until you are ready to dive in it 😉 You could decorate it the way you want, with cherries, marasquin cherries, chocolate bark etc…

I decide to decorate mine with chocolate coniferous tree since I made it for my son’s scouts promise….

Girl’s tea party Bday!

We celebrated the 2 girls birthday this last weekend with their friends. I really wanted to throw a tea party, so I suggested it to Camille and the deal was closed in seconds. I knew if Camille was sold on it, so would Rachel since she wants to do everything her older sister does 😉 Yes. I’m sneaky like that sometimes… That and the fact that I really didn’t wanted to do a princess party.

Camille made the invites (forgot to take pictures of this) with a tea cup drawing on the front.

Tea party Bday!

I found this at the thrift store for a whopping 5$ 🙂 And the kids were gonna take it home as a gift too since I really didn’t need 10 tea cups and saucers lol!

Made some decorations… (my kitchen IS yellow, so it’s really difficult to take nice pictures…)

Tea party Bday!

With old necklaces,

Tea party Bday!

paper flowers, balloons,

Tea party Bday!

tissue paper pom-poms (they are now residing in Rachel’s room!) and doilies as placemats…

Tea party Bday!

We had lots of food too for afternoon tea and snacks! We had the cookies we made last week, cucumber sandwiches, fruits and veggies, cheese and cupcakes 😉 I still can’t believe they ate it ALL! I can tell you they had a light dinner lol!

Tea party Bday!

they painted Xmas decorations, they got excited all over the house (I thought that having 8 girls wouldn’t be that bad… never underestimate the power of a party… and the size of your house lol!) ate, and ate and ate some more… Most of the kids didn’t like the chocolate-thai herbal tea I made though, so they had milk in their cup 😉
I’m just happy that my kids had a blast… and that is now over!

Melting pot!

I had a good new this week… A really good one, the kind that makes you go happy dance all over the house!

I won first place for the photo challenge!!!!!!!!! Can you believe that?? (you can see the pics here) Someone could object that we were only 8 to participate but I don’t care! I won a 75$ gift certificate for the fancy photo boutique in Montréal… Portrait lens, you’ll be mine soon!

Besides that, my stuff will be now carried by the nice gift boutique that opened 2 minutes from my place 😉 don’t mind the poor quality of the picture, I was in a hurry lol! They even sold a pair of mitts!

Someone asked me (Hi Jennifer!) to put an after picture of my cleaned sewing room 😉

How long it will stay that well organized remains to be seen though…

As you can see too, I had some fun with picmonkey and made a new Xmas banner for the blog… I was kind of tired of the one year old one.

And I thought you might be interested to see how I dispose of my “fabrics” when I’m done cutting…

how I cut my stuff...

Here, you have in ready to sew form about 8 necktie bags… so there isn’t lots of threw away materials…

I’m busy working on the party I’ll be having for the 2 girls birthdays.  They are hosting a tea party so this is gonna be fun! I’ll take nice pictures too 😉 so today is cupcake and black forest cake in the making… Black forest will be for my son’s promise with the scouts tomorrow 🙂 I think we can say we are busy lol!

Maybe I should have put a warning at the beginning of the post saying ” melting pot” post! But sometimes it’s how I feel anyway 😉

Julien Bday Party!

It’s over! Already 😉 We had fun, we had sunshine, we had good food and my boy was happy… So be prepared for lots of pictures and a big post!

Julien bday party!

Julien was so sweet the week before. I was doing some crafts to add to my décor and he helped me a bit. All he was saying is: mommy you are working too hard, you are making too much stuff… And I heard one of Camille’s friend that was over for the day whispering to my daughter : you mom IS doing lots of crafts. I keep forgetting that is not the same in all houses lol!

Julien bday party!

I was crazy enough to put all my décor on work one day while the kids were at school and at the babysitter. Taking pictures for about 45 minutes, and putting all of it away when done clicking the camera. 🙂

Julien Bday party!

I worked hard and I wasn’t to let the opportunity to take pictures get away! not mentioning you never know what will happen the day of the party…. And what if I’m too busy for taking pictures? and what if an accident happened?? which did… Yep.

Julien bday party!

One of my friend brought her cute little sausage dog and my cat felt threatened by it. My hubby just had time to held the cat down but got bitten quite a lot ;( now he’s on a roll of antibiotics (my hubby, not the cat!)

All in all, I did the décor under 20$… still amazed by the cost! I had almost everything on hand so I might say I was a lucky girl.

Julien Bday party!

We had “ice cream cone” cake for dessert along with a sundae bar.

The sundae bar was a hit with the temperature being so hot!

Most of the ideas are from Pinterest of course. you can see my inspirational board here (there’s good tuts if you want to make some!)

Julien Bday party!

Julien wanted a Star wars party, but since I got started on the popsicle-ice cream-mustache smash theme he was gracious enough to let me be the boss! but watch out next year, I don’t think I’ll be that lucky ha!

I made the mustaches and booth props  from styro sheet from the dollar store. The banner, pinwheels, and little bunting are from cardboard from the $ store. Apothecary jars are my buttons jar in their ordinary life and the vintage carry on is uses as storage for my finished scarves. White tablecloth habitually used when I have a craft fair and the orange fabrics are from my stash and are reclaimed of course! Mason jars from the time I was doing pickling like crazy and background is my old plywood plank I distressed. Popcorn garland is a Xmas classic and ice cream cones made from craft paper, tissue paper and styro balls I had lying around. Branches are gift from the backyard (as are the pine cones!).  I was happy to be crafting like a storm but glad it’s now over 🙂

Still can’t believe Julien will be 8 at the end of the month…

The kids got to play in water and had lots of fun.

They ate watermelon and popsicles…

I’ve been wanting for a long time a plank of plywood to use as a photo background. Not knowing we had it home stored somewhere. Duh. MY hubby kindly cut it off to fit the table. Now I have a background for my pictures. AND a background for birthday parties! YAY! I really like the distressed look for wood so I went to work on it a bit.

Here’s a small tutorial if you want to have one yourself.

distressed background tutorial

First, since it was stored for a long time and it was used for a seeding table,  I vacuumed  it 🙂

then I paint a coat of white, roughly, without thinking too much.

distressed background how-to

That was the easy part  ha.

white paint finish:

Then, I sanded it here and there (sorry no picture for this one!)

And I used some steel wool to give a grey finish a bit everywhere…

distressed background how to

I really like the finished look! And I can ham a nail on it to hang my handbags! It will be so much easier to use than my rolling blind (that keeps falling off) 🙂

distressed background how-to

I started to use it to take pictures ….

special order for a wedding!

It is much easier to edit with this back ground than a white toile and I think light is more diffuse too, less harsh.

Pickle holder, vintage tupperware!

I can put it standing up or lying down, and I think I’ll use the left over and do the same process so I’ll have both a back ground and a table top. I think pictures will look better than with white cardboard…

I’ll be using it for Julien’s birthday too, I’ll post some pictures soon!

Crafting hard!

Soon, my one and only son will be turning 8!! already!  And I’m planning a big party for his birthday 🙂 Since it’s the only member of the family that has a birthday in summer (we are all just before Xmas) it’s fun to be doing something outside and have the place…!

I’ve started a pinterest board  to collect ideas of what I have in mind 🙂 Pinterest is sooo addictive…. but very useful!

So here’s a teaser of what I’ve done today….

popsicle Collage

I made the invitations look like  creamsicles and I love them. Just made a template out of a cereal box and cut in cardboard from the $ store.

Popsicle invitations

I’ve a pretty good idea of what I want in term of décor lol. Thanks to Pinterest!
